What Gabapentin IS and what it is used for

This medicine is called Gabapentin Capsules BP and its contains the active substance Gabapentin.Gabapentin belongs to a group of medicines used to treat epilepsy and peripheral neuropathic pain (long lasting pain caused by damage to the nerves).

How to take Gabapentin

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.Check with your Doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure .Your doctor will determine what dose is appropriate for you.

Children aged 6 years and above

The dose to be given to your child will be decided by your doctor as it is calculated against your child weight. The treatment is started with low initial dose which is gradually increased over a period of approximately 3 days.

WHAT IS GABAPENTIN AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

• Gabapentinis a prescription drug most commonly prescribed to relieve nerve pain following shingles in adults, treating the pain of post herpetic neuralgia. Gabapentin belongs to a class of drugs known as anti-seizure
• Take gabapentin by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once a day with the evening meal. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• Swallow gabapentin whole. Do not crush or chew sustained-release tablets. Doing so can release the entire drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects. Also, do not split sustained-release tablets unless they have a score line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do so. Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing.
• During the first 2 weeks of treatment, your doctor may gradually increase your dose so your body can adjust to the medication.
• Gabapentin is available under the following different brand names: Neurontinand Gralise.
