DESCRIPTION

ZI MAL (Alpha-Beta Arteether Injection) is a synthetic derivative of artemisinin, a product extracted from the plant Chinese Artemisia anuua. ZI MAL (Alpha-Beta Arteether Injection) is a fast-acting particularly schizonticide indicated for the treatment of P. falciparum malaria resistant to chloroquine and the cases of cerebral malaria.

PHARMACOLOGY

Alpha-Beta Arteether acts erythrocyte step. The functional group responsible for the antimalarial activity of Alpha-Beta Arteether is the bridge endoperoxyde. The researchers believe that iron from hemoglobin digested by parasite reduces the bridge by releasing a free radical highly reactive iron, oxo species that destroy parasites.

It is believed that Alpha-Beta arteether inhibits protein synthesis and alters the organization of ribosomes and reticulum endo-plasma, Alpha-Beta Arteether also acts on the memberanes of parasites by lipid perozidation.
